I've been brainstorming a list of goals for 2017... and the list is long, so I had to make a list of what needed to be done this year and minimize my list to make it more realistic. I took a list of over 20 goals and narrowed it down to 5 main goals to accomplish by the end of this year. Goal #1An obvious goal continuing from last year... starting/launching my podcast. There are still a few things on the checklist that will go into starting the podcast including: finding a host, writing an outline, creating a schedule, etc. This goal has been over 6 months in the making and I am so close I can taste it!! Goal #2Create & design my own digital files to download and sell. I have been contemplating and brainstorming for a year now on something that I really enjoy doing and something that sells. This is it. I always enjoyed my graphic design classes in high school, so much that I was the teacher's aid for the class my junior and senior year. I also became the president of the club that teacher ran and enjoyed video editing for the club as well as creating flyers, programs, etc. for the school. I even petitioned for another class to be added (which ended up not being created) that involved the computer lab because I enjoyed using the computer to design artistic things. I never took the time to figure out a way to make money in the longterm doing something I love. Not that I do not love nursing, but I have always felt in my heart that there was something else I was meant to do. Nursing gave me a stable income and lifestyle, so I will never regret my decision to go that path. I also have learned so much about myself and my overall well-being. I will still utilize my nursing knowledge in my podcast, but in a more preventative aspect of spreading resources to help people live a more balanced life. I still plan to continue to work as a nurse to gain and retain knowledge as of now, but a life goal would be to leave the profession completely while still maintaining a stable income and lifestyle. Goal #3This is a simple yet significant goal. I want to gain one certification that goes towards my career as a nurse. I believe that you cannot further your career without continuing to learn. Although being a registered nurse binds you to those dreadful 20 continuing education hour requirements every two years, but I like to make sure that I have at least one certification per renewal. Technically I have already gained my certification as PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) nurse, but I want to add one more before my renewal in 2017. I am already signed up for my TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course) Certification. I haven't been able to finish the course due to staffing issues since I now work 5 days a week (typical nurse complaint* eye rolling). I signed up for the class in February, so this may be accomplished sooner than later. My last 2 goals are more simple, but something I have been wanting to do for a while. I thought maybe posting them would actually motivate me to find the priority and importance of these goals. Goal #4Read one book every month for the year. I don't want to put pressure on myself, so I do not want to specify the type fiction or non-fictional, motivation, religious, or what ever. Just one book a month for 12 months. Goal #5This goal is going to be more challenging, but I think in the area that I am in that it won't be hard to find a simple, budget friendly one that is motivational and educational to me. I want to take one class, free or not, that is based around something that I love to do that does not have anything to do with nursing. Preferrably one that revolves around business, marketing, or design. Going back to Goal #2, I want to learn more about how to do design on the computer and make good quality products that people will want. It can even be a course online. Something to expand my knowledge. So in conclusion, I feel good about 2017. Let's ring in the New Year and better ourselves. Let's be more of the person that we want to be. If I can do it, anyone can... Anywho, where is the champagne, I'm ready for a toast. I am done with serious for now and ready to celebrate. Happy New Year everyone and I hope that 2017 brings you more happiness!
Until Next Time
