Father's Day

Today was spent at my Dad's in my hometown. We went to church at my Dad's church in which he is a founding member that is soon to be in its own home in the process of being built. It has been a long, greater than ten year journey of moving the congregation from leased property to its most recent home by the local Dollar General. Ministers have come and gone and so have members, but the ones that have stayed have created a beautiful ministry. I think its most successful part is the program for recovering addicts, convicts, and anyone who has struggles in life called Celebrate Recovery. It gives people an outlet for people to listen, community service hours for those that need it, and resources to improve their own lives. It is Christian based, but much more than that. The church is small, but as things take time, I think it has great potential.

At lunch, we went to a local restaurant spending most of our time visiting with other locals I grew up with and haven't seen in a while...the joys of a small town. My brother showed up and we talked about his wife who is a NICU nurse and pregnant for the first time with a baby girl who is due in November of this year. So excited to see my brother as a father, especially of a girl.

Late in the afternoon I received a Snap Chat from one of my best friends who lives in town and she was driving a new black convertible Camero. After sending a few SnapChats back and forth, she headed over to show me her new car. We took a long drive down memory lane talking about old times and catching up on recent events like her brother who is having a baby girl around the same time as my niece. It is the little things like this that I really enjoy.

For dinner, my grandmother showed up and we caught up on recent events and my recent relocation to Houston area. My step-mother fixed a tremendous amount of food that we devoured and even though we did not have much room, we still ate the turtle brownies and ice cream. We traveled back home soon after that because we have to work tomorrow. I also gave my step-father a call, who also plays a huge fatherly role in my life that I was not able to see this weekend due to time restraints, to tell him happy Father's Day although he has no biological children, he is a father at heart.

Also, my husband had to watch the end of the U.S. Open and has been pacing in the living room the past twenty minutes. Jordan Spieth ultimately winning the first two majors this year at 21 years old. Looking up the profit from the tournament for winning being around 1.8 million. I would not know what to do with such a prize.

I'm exhausted and have two full days of work ahead of me.
Until next time...
